The collection, established by Prof. Dr. Battal Çıplak within the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science, Akdeniz University, remains active today and houses a large number of insect specimens, making it one of the richest Orthoptera (grasshopper) collections in Turkey. This collection contains both alcohol-preserved and museum specimens, representing a total of 12 families and 28 subfamilies within the Orthoptera order.
The museum inventory includes specimens from 7 families, 21 subfamilies, 90 genera, and 339 taxa, not counting those yet to be identified. In collaboration with the Molecular Evolution and Biogeography Laboratory (MEVBİL), the alcohol-preserved collection comprises 11 families, 24 subfamilies, 93 genera, and 414 taxa, again excluding unidentified specimens.
When analyzing the geographic distribution of the subfamily representatives within Turkey, their presence is recorded as follows: 89% in the Mediterranean region, 50% in the Aegean region, 46% in the Marmara region, 39% in the Black Sea region, 64% in Central Anatolia, 61% in Eastern Anatolia, and 32% in Southeastern Anatolia.
